- Community-based services focus on, "providing a safe place, promoting hope, finding balance, developing self-wisdom, increasing enjoyment, building confidence, and encouraging self-determination."
- Studies show that the outcomes of a community-based recreational therapy include, "Significant improvements were found in Overall QOL [Quality of Life], Environmental QOL [Quality of Life], Psychological QOL [Quality of Life], QOL [Quality of Life]Rated, Satisfaction with Health, Participation, and Happiness[.]"
- "When individuals have a strong community-based setting to use after their discharge from the inpatient setting, the rate of rehospitalization dramatically decreases and their overall health, recovery and quality of life improves. Their ability to actively contribute or give back to the community also improves."
- "Recreational therapy has the same foundation as any traditional therapy program and has benefits in every facet of human recovery from trauma or illness. Recreational therapy can also have a positive effect on a client's perception of locus of control. Through recreational therapies, traumatic brain injury patients are provided an environment and opportunity for naturally calming activities. The recreational therapist plays a critical role in assessing the patient's abilities and deficits while in the community."
As long as safety, reasonable privacy and confidentiality are maintained, we will integrate a variety of our central Texas locations (parks, museums, sporting events, etc.) into Recreational Therapy sessions for our members.
Some activities incur additional fees (for admission, etc.).
